To Train or Not To Train

I have been LOVING not being in a training cycle since the marathon. I have been doing whatever I want and boy does it look good on me. When I was marathon training all other forms of exercise took a back seat because I HAD to get my run in. The day after the marathon I did nothing and loved every minute of it. Tuesday and Wednesday I did a bit of core work and then Thursday and Friday I popped in to Mind Your Body Oasis for Hot Flow and Restorative Yoga. It was exactly what my body needed to stretch out and rid my muscles of the last bit of lactic acid. I also went for a sports massage on Thursday, pure heaven.Image 1This week I have been craving running. I think part of it has to do with the 50F weather we are finally getting. It is spring by golly!pantsProof: the yellow pants came out. Spring + Friday = bright pants. I think I need to keep this going all spring / summer. Also how amazing are those shoes? I have a soft spot for comfy and cute flats.

Back to fitness… This week has been a blast. I am working out with Brennan / when our schedules don’t line up he prescribes work outs. It’s handy having a buff boyfriend isn’t it? I pay him in love and hugs, it’s very friendly on my wallet.Image 2Monday was a chest and abs day. We did some bench, push ups, flies, and push presses before moving on to abs.

Tuesday morning I was wildly aware of my pectorals, eek. Tuesday I was on my own and hit the gym at 6am. I ran / incline walked for 30 minutes. I worked my way up to an 8.0 then walked the rest. I was on a treadmill so my “ahhhh I’m running” wasn’t in full force. In the weight department I did back, some legs, and abs. I broke up the back exercises by doing rounds of squats or lunges.

Wednesday was crazy hectic. I had about 20 minutes to hit the weights and did a bunch of shoulder work:

50 jumping jacks
15 over head shoulder press @15lbs
10 lat raises @12.5lbs
10 front raises @12.5lbs

8 triceps pull downs @70lbs
20 hip circles on ball

10 dips on ball
15 right side bends @45lbs
15 left side bends @45lbs

Thursday it was insanely gorgeous out so I headed outside for a 40 minutes run, I covered 4.4 miles and was happy as a clam. I ran with music for the first time in forever and I felt like gold. It was such a treat. After the run I headed back to Mind Your Body Oasis for a level 2-3 Hot Flow class. Debbie was the instructor and HOLY CRAP. I felt like such a wuss. My shoulders and chest are exhausted from all the lifting this week so chaturangas were basically laughing at me. This was by far the hardest, most intense, and incredible yoga class I have ever been too. I will be returning again soon for another but whooping.

Today (Friday) I am heading to Revolve for my FIRST spin class. I am not sure how I have managed to go this long with out taking spin. I will have Christy there for company. I will also be hanging out with Alex tonight, it is our first hang out and we are doing it in style with booze.

Saturday = rest day

Sunday I am heading into DC to hang out with a Alex and Logan for a 10 mile trail run. Should be a blast!

On a completely unrelated note I am teamed up with RedStar right now and they are running an awesome promo. If you follow this link {} and enter the code MTA14 you will get a $500 credit towards your purchase. I have heard that there is a subscription that you end up signed up for but as long as you cancel it after you place your order you will not billed for anything additional. I ran with mine yesterday and they are awesome! I have the polarized 606A

What has been going on in your life for the last two weeks? I haven’t had the time to read as much as I would like and I miss you guys!

Do you prefer being in or out of a training cycle?

Beast mode! You’re killing it on the post-marathon workout front. I was glued to my coach for the first week. I’m still so angry I can’t join this Sunday. Can’t wait to hear how it goes!

You aren’t the first person to say that but the different is that you pushed yourself for your marathon! I JOGGED mine! I ran it slower than all my long runs and took it easy. SO for me it was recovering from a really long long run. You completing your marathon IN UNDER FOUR HOURS is huge.

We will miss you Sunday, hope you are feeling better!

I like a short break after a training cycle but I do much better with structure [and it’s not just in training] so I like having a plan and a goal to obtain. :)

I love being in a training cycle! But like you, I am having a blast with tennis, yoga, and strength training now that I’m not training for anything.
