The Final Stretch – End of Year Goals

I put together a pretty big bucket list a few months back. Once I tore my ACL I removed the 2013 time frame on it. Best decision ever. While the middle part of my year was a little rough I feel pretty amazing rebounding from that whole debacle.

Items I Have Crossed Off My List!

1) My number one goal of this year was to have a safe and active recovery from surgery. I would say I am right on track for that. I was on the stationary bike 2 weeks after surgery and kept up with cardio and started strength training as soon as I could. Then in Sept I started running again and now I am up to 14 miles.IMG_20131117_1022292) 1:50 half marathon: I barely squeaked that out at the Rock n’ Roll this year but I did it – my friends are awesome! So is Brennan because he ran all over the city snapping pictures for me. He is the best.4) Go camping – done and done! I am pretty sure I hit my yearly quota of peanut butter and marshmallows by the end of the first evening. I’d say the trail hill sprints with a weighted (cast iron skillet style) backpack makes up for it though.8) Cook 90% Paleo – 99% of the time the food I purchase for my house is Paleo friendly. I don’t turn my nose up to food gifts from friends and the occasional office cupcake. Sue me.Photo on 7-22-13 at 7.06 PM11) Take a cooking class – Brennan and I did this right before my knee surgery! It was a blast, next time we will try out another company though. We weren’t huge fans of sharing with strangers. My hair is so short in this picture!! Fun Fact: I cut my hair once a year and it is normally in May, right when this picture was taken!13) Buy a car at the end of lease – I haven’t mentioned this to you guys yet but I bought my car last week! I will have payments for another 2 years or so but the title and everything is in my name! I sort of love this. I plan on paying it off sooner rather than later but it’s the holiday season so I wanted to save a few pennies to spend on loved ones. This actually it not my car but how good looking are these two.SashBrenCar

Works In Progress

9) Find my happy weight – This year has been a bit of a roller coaster because of my surgery. At this point I have lost 13.2lbs in the last 15 weeks! My goal is to finish out this year strong and be down another 5lbs by New Years. Since starting marathon training and my 15 week muscle sculpt program my appetite has been INSANE but the scale is dropping. Clearly what I’m doing is working. For in case any one is worrying, I eat plenty, I am not one to skimp on the food.14) Cook a whole bird – my dad bought me an awesome roasting pan TWO YEARS AGO for Christmas and I will finally be putting it to use this year! My friends and I are having a Friendsgiving / Holiday Celebration the first weekend of December and I am cooking the bird! I found a stellar recipe and hopefully my bird looks as pretty as this one. I love that a lemon, orange, and onion go into the cavity, it sounds so intriguing!
16) Complete a trail race – I was not able to complete the North Face Endurance Half Marathon this year due to my knee but I chatted with the North Face folks this week and they are going to give me a free pass to run it next June when it is back in DC! So the intent is there, just gotta wait till June rolls around! I will be really excited to head back to Fountainhead Regional to trail run next year.
17) Complete a marathon – I am training! March 9th baby!

Dang you got a lot done! I need to get back in the game and start creating some goals of my own. Let me know how that bird cooking goes. I’ve been dying to try but I’m too terrified… there was a great BuzzFeed showdown to find the best roast chicken recipe: worth checking out!

Man you did sooooo much!! I feel like I’ve done nothing! Wahoo on a new car, AND for rocking those 14 miles… SO SPEEDY <<—- but you always are so thats nothing new! It was my goal this summer to make s'mores – did I do it? NOPE! I don't even need to go camping but I still didn't succeed! Oh boy.

I'm gonna set some goals come 2014 – all thanks to you! :D

You know, I don’t think I really set yearly/monthly/weekly goals or many goals at all. Too much pressure, you know? I consider myself a fairly motivated person, so putting deadlines on things causes additional stress for me I think. However, your list looks awesome. I’ve always wanted to do a trail race!

I am legit in awe of you already bumping your mileage and kicking ass with marathon training. BEAST! I cannot wait for you to run that thing. YAY for your car and is it weird I think that photo of your bird is kinda pretty? Like it should be in a food magazine. Odd thing for a vegan to say?? HA!
