One of my girl friends is getting married next summer and asked me to run a half marathon with her in April. The race is perfectly placed to give her an incentive to run all through the winter and for the weather to be fantastic on race day. Liz is gorgeous already but I am sure like many brides to be she is feeling like she needs to look like a top model for her wedding. I don’t blame her, I will most certainly do the same. Liz and I ran our first half marathons together last year in June in Annapolis.Liz is on the far right, the one in the middle is Robin. She may actually join us in April as well.I feel like we look like such little babies! So any who… The date of this race is April 26th. If you have been a reader for a while you may remember that the soccer game that ended my running career for the last few months was on April 25th. April 26th is the day that my orthopedic told me that I had in fact torn my ACL and would require surgery.
The race that Liz sent me to take a look at for this coming April is the Ocean City, MD Half Marathon/5K Anniversary Event 2014. So on my one year ACL suck-aversary I will be running a half marathon in Ocean City ANDDDD I want you to join me! I know there are a few of you east coasters who aren’t too far: I am talking to you Nikki, Brennan, Mary, Rana, and Sarah (I know there are a million more but it is early right now so give me a break, my brain doesn’t turn on until at least noon).
OC Tri Running Sports proudly presents to you on April 26, 2014, the ten year running anniversary of the “Island to Island” Half Marathon & 5K. To celebrate the anniversary this year we will begin the 13.1 mile race from Assategue Island and we will finish the race at the Inlet in Ocean City. Start your journey from the beautiful Assategue Island, run the scenic route 611 and finish in the historic downtown Inlet. Your post party begins once you cross the finish line!! Join us for the most fun and entertaining post race party of the year with food, refreshments, live music and an award ceremony. Same 13.1 miles of running, 10 times the fun! This years race will once again benefit Worcester Youth and Family Counseling. We thank you for your support for the past ten years and we look forward to another ten, registration is now open!
That looks like quite the beautiful race don’t you think?? I don’t plan on “racing” this but we do plan on shooting for 2 hours and sticking to that. My goal is to just hang with Liz and cross the finish line together. For the Zooma half I think we only finished 5 – 10 minutes apart maybe? So there is a good chance Liz gets all speedy and I need to run hard but I think we both have agreed that 2 hours is just perfect.
Do you live on the east coast? Could this race be a possibility for you? Are you crafty? Can you make me a fun shirt to wear announcing to every one around me that it is the one year anniversary of the death of my ACL? If the half is too long can you run the 5k?? The early bird rate runs through Oct 31st so there is still plenty of time to mull this over.

I have absolutely zero affiliation with this race I just think it looks like a beautiful course and the timing of it could not be better!
In other fun running news: If we are friends on twitter / dailymile you already know this BUT I have gone running twice in the last 10 days! The first time was for 3 miles on the treadmill. I started at 5.0 and moved my way up to 6.0 for the last mile. The 2nd attempt was on Tuesday and I walked a half mile, ran 2.5, then walked an additional mile. The Tuesday run was outside and my first mile was @ 9:22 and the 2nd 1.5 @ 8:42… Which means that while I lost a bit a speed at my “easy pace” I am still in the 8s! I couldn’t be happier. My legs are sore because I haven’t ran in almost 4 months, my knee however feels pretty darn good.
Q: Will you be joining me in April to run the OC Half Marathon?? (hint, say yes)
